Call for Abstracts
Deadline for abstracts submission: February 3rd 2013General Guidelines
Abstracts must be original and must not be or have been published or presented at any other meeting prior to the 20th International Congress of Nutrition (20th ICN).
Abstracts must be submitted in English using exclusively the on-line system of this web page (www.icn2013.com). Abstracts submitted via fax or any other means will not be accepted.
Please indicate whether the abstract is for Oral or Poster Presentation.
Oral abstract presentations will dispose of 8 minutes time plus 2 minutes for discussion. All the electronic material should be delivered at the designated download point at least 4 hours before your abstract presentation.
Presenting authors of abstracts must be registered participants. Registration must be received by the Secretariat by April 30th, 2013 to ensure your abstract is included in the meeting publication and in order to be scheduled for presentation.
An e-mail address is compulsory in order to receive information about your submission.
Abstracts must be received by the announced deadline. Abstracts received after the deadline will not be considered.
Submission of an abstract acknowledges your acceptance for the abstract to be published in the official meeting publication.
The Scientific Committee of the 20th ICN who will determine whether the abstract will be accepted as an oral presentation or a poster, with consideration given to the author’s preference.
The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission to the Secretariat.
Authors will be notified by email no later than March 24th 2013, whether their abstract has been accepted or rejected.
20th ICN will publish all accepted abstracts in an online supplement of in Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism. In addition, all abstracts included in the Supplement will be available to Congress participants in a pen-drive. The abstracts published online will include the e-mail address of the presenting author. As a condition of submission, the 20th ICN requires you to agree to such publication and to surrender any copyright over the abstract as submitted to the Congress.
Abstracts stating “data will be discussed in the presentation” will NOT be accepted.
Based on their quality, a number of abstracts will be selected by The Scientific Committee of the 20th ICN to be awarded.
Abstract preparation and format
Before you begin, please prepare the following information:
Presenting author's contact details

· Full postal address
· Phone (s) number(s)
Author and co-authors' details
· Full first and family name(s).
· Affiliation details: department, institution / hospital, city, state (if relevant), country
Abstract title - limited to 20 words in UPPER CASE
Abstract text:
- In English.
- Text should not exceed 300 words, including acknowledgements
- Figures, graphs, images, tables and diagrams should not be included
Authors (full first and family name abbreviation) must be in upper and lower bold case separated by colons (;) e.g Smith J; Perez A, Srikinava H. The presenting author's name must be underlined. The presenting author's name, institution, address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address must be provided.
Affiliation must follow this example e. g. Department of Public Health Nutrition, University of Irina, Gambia
Abstracts should clearly state:
· Background and objectives: state the rationale or hypothesis followed by objectives.
· Methods: briefly discuss the design of the study/ program and how it was conducted.
· Results: present the main results with appropriate statistics/ data analysis and pertinent discussion.
· Conclusions: limit the conclusions to those that are directly supported by the results.
· Key words: include 3-5 key words.
• Only standardized abbreviations will be allowed. Place special or unusual abbreviations in parentheses after the full word appears the first time.
Abstract category: Abstracts would be allocated to a specific category for the scientific program. You will need to select the category most suited to your abstract. To preview the categories please visit the Scientific Program Area.
Draft abstracts – The online submission form allows you to make changes to your abstract before the submission deadline. When you complete the form for the first time you will be given an access key that will allow you to access your abstract online and make any necessary changes before February 3rd, 2013.

Disclosure of financial relationships that the author(s) may have with the manufacturer/supplier of any commercial products or services related to the work, should be indicated in the appropriate box on the abstract form.
